First time at the flea market

The highlight of this weekend was my first trip to the De Anza College Flea Market after a dear friend’s suggestion. Held on the first Saturday of every month at the De Anza College campus, it’s a day long affair with almost a hundred stalls offering everything from a hairpin to a hammer! Add antiques, home accessories, paintings, hats, jewelry, giant bags of popcorn, a lot of cute dogs and a great gal’s company to that and you can imagine why I had such a great time!

In all the excitement I didn’t capture everything I should have but here are a few shots of items that caught my eye. Will need to focus on taking more photos of interesting finds on my next trip!

Delicate porcelain vases
Framed painted fabric
Vases, Candle holders and other accessories made in Thailand

A few tips

  • Have a list of what you want to buy (it’s so easy to get overwhelmed and lose focus in such a setting!)
  • Put your bargaining face on – Unfortunately, despite being Indian I lack the essential bargaining skills
  • Go early if you want to pick up the best stuff (most sellers may not keep more than 1 piece of certain unique items) and also to find a good parking spot!
